Class Registration and Advising
New F-1 students will have an INR hold on their CSU account, which blocks registration. The hold is removed after you arrive in the U.S. once you upload your immigration documents in the CISP portal and update your U.S. address in CampusNet.
Before registering, all students must meet with an academic coach to ensure proper course selection and maintain F-1 status. After advising, you can register for courses through CampusNet. Complete any approvals or prerequisite overrides in advance. If a class is full, join the waitlist. For help, view the “How to Enroll” video on the Register for Classes website.
Academic Coaching
Undergraduate: First-year and Transfer Students
Identifying your academic coach is easy — just check your "Success Network" in Starfish on CampusNet.
- Log into CampusNet from the CSU main web page (choose the person icon in the right corner)
- In the Student tab, click on the blue Starfish link
- Check your "My Success Network" for your assigned academic coach
- Click on your academic coach's name or "see available appointments" (just below their name) to schedule an appointment.
We strongly encourage you to build an ongoing relationship with your academic coach to get the support you need to stay on track and reach graduation.
Be advised: you may be required to take English and Math Placement tests prior to registration. Placement tests can be taken online. Visit the Testing Services website for more information regarding the process.
Undergraduate Transfer Credits
CSU accepts transfer credit for coursework completed at accredited international institutions. Contact All-In-One Enrollment Services with questions.
At admission, transcripts are reviewed unofficially. A full course equivalency evaluation is completed upon request during your first academic coaching appointment (varies by college). For this review, bring:
- Course syllabi (in English), or
- Course catalog descriptions (in English)
CSU transfers courses with a grade of D or better, with no limit on total credits. However, courses only count toward specific CSU requirements if approved by the appropriate academic department. Requirements include general education, college and major courses—consult your coach for details.
Transfer students must complete at least 50% of major requirements and a minimum of 30 credits at CSU to meet CSU residency requirements.
Graduate Students
Graduate advising is conducted through your program of study. E-mail your program director to schedule an appointment. Review this handy chart which lists all grad programs with college, director names, and other useful information. The CSU Graduate Academic Catalog is also a great resource to refer to.
Once you meet with your graduate program advisor, you will be able to register for courses via CampusNet.
