Format: On Campus

Grow your career as a teacher, researcher or community consultant on the cognitive, motor, perceptual, social emotional and behavioral functioning of adults throughout their life span. Prepare for a faculty position in teaching and research at two-year and four-year institutions of higher education or for a research position at a research institute. The program is offered jointly by Cleveland State University and the University of Akron.

Gain the expertise to help other adults reach their educational goals in a variety of settings, including, but not limited to, technical/vocational colleges; proprietary schools; four-year colleges; literacy, ABE and GED programs; and training programs within healthcare, business and industrial settings. The certificate program consists of 15 credit hours.

Learn to develop educational programs that address the issues and challenges facing adult learners in various learning environments. Deep dive into educational theories, philosophies, history and practices, and then apply your skills through participation in internships. Specialization tracks are available in Adult Learning and Development, Professional Education, Higher Education and Instructional Design and Technology.

Study the history, culture and contributions of people of African descent to better engage with issues of race, ethnicity and social justice. The minor consists of 15 credit hours.

Develop a broader understanding of the contributions and challenges faced by African people and gain valuable insights into racial and social dynamics in contemporary society.
